Several directors, authors and inventors have worked on the notion of a loop in animation, starting with the first optical games since the zootrope (invented by William George Horner in 1833) to the praxinoscope (Émile Reynaud)via the phenakistiscope (the Belgian Joseph Plateau).
Besides animation, the cycle is the driving principle of the world : antediluvian cycles like those of nature, time and the universe ; or more familiar or prosaic cycles : those of our society and our modern alienation
